Nintendo DS Flash/XML Based Compatibility List

Low Lines brings some news about his Flash/XML Based Compatibility List for Nintendo DS:

In case you don't know there has been a lot of work happening in the DS Emulation Forum on emulator compatibility with two emulators in particular (iDeaS & DeSmuME).

Well I have gone and made the effort off creating a Flash/XML based database that has many useful options such as searching and ordering of list data. Though it is still a WIP, it has very much progressed and is really easy to use.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
This site and compatibility database REQUIRES the Flash 8 Web Browser Plugin. And at the moment I don't think it works on Linux Operating Systems. But I do not have Linux so somebody may need to verify this with me. Also your browsers may come up with security warnings (as I quickly found out) or may in deed block it completely (particularily with embeded URLs) but there is no bugs or spyware or anything, it's just Microsoft & Macromedia being paranoid!! LOL

This is my site...

Leave your comments in this thread. Best of luck with the project, Low Lines. :)

PSPVBA 1.0.1 Released

Hi All,

VisualBoyAdvance is an emulator for GameBoy Advance console.
See http://vba.ngemu.com/ for further informations.

PSPVBA is a port on PSP of the Linux version 1.7.2 of VisualBoyAdvance with SDL support.

How to use it ? Everything is in the README.txt file.

It's a first beta release, and as we could expect, it doesn't run full speed !

I've done many optimizations to reach the full speed, in particular i've translated all the original source code from c++ to pure C langage for performance purposes, but that's not enough ...

Nevertheless, all required features for an emulator are already presents such as sound, "save states", customizable keys mapping, screenshots etc ...

The sound suport is based on the work of psp298, but it is not really good (mainly due to speed).

Sources are included, and this package is under the GNU public license, read COPYING.txt file for more information about it.

Daedalus PSP R6 WIP Report

StrmnNrmn has updated his blog with a new work in progress report for his Nintendo 64 emulator for the PSP handheld. Here is what he had to say about the upcoming release.

I'm back from Spain now. I had a great time in Barcelona, it's a bit of a shame to be back :)

I'm planning to have quite a quick turnaround on for the next release, i.e. hopefully I'll have something ready by the end of next week, or early July. I want to concentrate on fixing a bunch of graphical issues (adding new combine modes to fix various pink+black textures etc). I'm also going to look at reducing memory requirements - I think the stability problems associated with running the emulator with dynarec for an extended period of time are a result of running out of memory. This should also help to improve the Expansion Pak support. If I get enough time I'll look at adding support for configuring the controls on a rom by rom basis. Finally, I also want to look at improving savegame support.

New VBA Build From Spacy Released

Spacy has released a newl build of the Gameboy Advance emulator VisualBoy Advance. Here is the recent changes from him and PokemonHacker.

Fixed joypad configuration dialog, it now responds faster to key presses.
Merged the "open file" code for GB and GBA games.
Merged the simple copy Image routine between DirectDraw and Direct3D, added a fast C alternative
Worked over the whole DirectSound interface and found+fixed a minor bug.
 Enabled SSE(1) optimization in compiler

Pokemonhacker: [the one and only :)]
Cheats.cpp
corrected a compatibility problem with other versions.
fixed a bug for ARV3/4 rom patching codes.
corrected a bug when you entered a 'unknown' code, and then removed/disabled it.

GBA.cpp / gbainline.h:
tweaked the bus prefetch a bit.
changed the save handling a bit.
added a 'master code' support (so the cheats are executed only when the master code address is reached ; if no master code are entered, cheats will be executed after each frame).
 corrected the mirroring of Vram.
changed slightly the emulation of gbasavetype.

RTC.cpp:
vba now ignores rtc command 0x64.

FLash.cpp:
added a 64k->128k 'auto upgrade' (could correct some of the pokemon games's corrupted/deleted save problem).

Cheats.h:
corrected a compatibility problem with other versions.
fixed a bug for ARV3/4 rom patching codes.

bios.cpp:
added support for swi $d (GetBiosChecksum).

Mednafen 0.6.2 Source Released

A new source version for the multiple system emulator Mednafen has been released. Here is the changes for for version 0.6.2.

PCE: Physical CDROM device names will no longer be printed on Mac OS/X on startup, due to the code crashing badly(rather than goodly!).
OpenGL texture heights are now rounded up to the nearest power of 2(texture widths already had this rounding in previous versions), which should fix special scalers on video output devices that don't support non-power-of-2 textures(IE most video cards and Mac boxen).
PCE: The libcdio sector reading functions are now checked for return values < 0 as errors, rather than != 0, to fix problems under Linux and possibly many other OSes where the return value is something like 2048(the number of bytes read, presumably).
PCE: Fixed a bug with disassembling block memory transfer instructions on < 64-bit systems(I had forgot to type-cast a variable to uint64 before left-shifting it past 32-bits).
PCE: Added the implied form of INC to the disassembler.
NES: Removed the PRG mask constraint for UNROM/mapper 2, introduced in version 0.2.0, to fix the Japanese "Maniac Mansion" and possibly other games.
PCE: Fixed debugger write breakpoints. The code had a logical error in it, with the end effect of preventing stack writes in the IRQ sequence, causing games to crash.

Look forward to the Win32 binary build coming soon.

The Emulation64 Network :)

Hey guys it's nice to be back after a nice long break (about 8 months) and I'll be helping out with the site once again. During my time away I have been working hard on EFx2Blogs which has really taken off .. yeah yeah shameless plug. :D

As you may have noticed the site has had a bit of a face lift with a newer design. A lot of elements are the same so it shouldn't be too much of a change. The new design is much faster when it comes to load times and cleaner looking for easier use. I want to thank all those that gave input in the designing process and helping come up with something nice for all our visitors.

I also wanted to give WhiteX a public welcome to the team and a big thanks for all his contributions with news posting and reviews. Also big thanks to [vEX] and wrags for keeping the site updated all this time. I know it's not an easy job going solo. :)

Anyways if you guys are bored or just looking for a nice community to join then head on over to our forums here at EmuTalk and join up (if you haven't already). Pop into Talk of the Town I am sure there is something there that will peak your interest, but if not we are always looking for new discussions. :)

Neo Geo for PSP Alpha 2 Released

I just read over at our network site PSP-News that a new Alpha release for the Neo Geo emulator by NJ has been released. Here is the changes for Alpha 2.

BIOS it tried to start selection from the file browser. During file browser executing when the button is pushed, the menu opens.
Only at the time of the first starting it tried to indicate the help of the file browser. (For the above-mentioned modification)
In initial condition it tried automatic frame skip to become effective.
Case it fails in starting, it tried not to retain SRAM and the memory card.
In order to be able to start several games which it cannot start, the intention of correcting. The game where memory is not enough does not operate as usual. Referring to details list.txt.
If user interface is simplified, because memory is less crowded somewhat, perhaps, the game which can be started more or less it increases, but only this game it operates basically.

Thanks Kaiser for the news. You can grab the release and leave some feedback over at the DCEmu Forums.

@ruantec A.E.S Progress Report

@ruantec best known for his EMU-SELECTOR frontend has posted a progress report for his latest project which will replace EMU-SELECTOR. Here is the information about @ruantec A.E.S (Advance entertainment software) that was posted over at NGEmu's forums yesterday.

hi everyone! a while ago ive showed my new program which will replace the old emu-selector(btw this project is dead now) the new program is called "@ruantec A.E.S" or Advance entertainment software.. this new program will provide you a lot of nice things.... to mention some of them.. video and music! almost all kind of media is supported... mp3,wav,ogg,wma,acc,m4a,avi,divx in fact every format as long as you have the codec installed on your pc. but thats not all.. lets get to the interesting part.. a.e.s support n64,snes and many other emulators that use roms by just drag and drop the game to the a.e.s screen or just select them from the a.e.s menu! in some cases you will not even see the emu window at all as all the games are started in fullscreen! and the most exciting feature...a.e.s can be fully controlled using a ps2 remote control!

and last but not least a.e.s will have autorun support for psx,ps2 dreamcast and many other emulators that use cds!.

at the moment a.e.s is under hard tests to get best results. and its looking good so very soon you will see a release of it!

as ive sayd before this project was originally made for my wife but i decide to share it with all of you.

more projects are coming in the near future(if i get enough time) so stay tune.

to prevent confusions.. a.e.s is not a EMULATOR(for now at least)! a.e.s is a new style of frontend. in other words a full entertainment software.

jEnesis v0.1 Preview

Some preview screenshots and a progress report for the upcoming version of jEnesis has been posted a few days ago. jEnesis is a Genesis emulator written in java created by Stephan Dittrich. Here is some info about the upcoming release.

I bumped the version number up a bit, due to recent progress.
As you can see, i worked on a SH2 core and now the 32X is basically emulated - for the first time in Java as far as i know.
It's actually a bit faster than the screenshots show, but still not really fast enough. 25-35fps on my 1.8GHz Athlon XP.
So i'll be working on speeding it up and fixing some bugs that are still in the SH2 core until i release it.

Head on over to the official site for the screenshots and for older versions of jEnesis. Thanks to Hawq for the news on IRC.

DualSwan v1.2, Released.

A major update for the WonderSwan emulator for the DS made by Liranuna.

There you go, dualSwan 1.2 released.
Still no sound, and some games are below 20FPS, but the re-write was worth it!
Why? Because now some games are running in full speed and even passes it (200FPS baby!).

dualSwan will work only with CF/SD based flashcarts, and will load any WonderSwan ROM that is smaller then 4MB (Need to write dynamic bank loading).

The SPU isnt yet emulated - this means there is no sound.
Sources are released too. You are free to modify and re-release your own version (Something like unofficial Goomba) but please dont claim it yours.

I was working hard on this emulator to make it what it is now, even if its not perfect yet.
Id appreciate any positive comments, as well as Donations and clicks on the sites ads.

PCSX2 - 100,000 visitors, and more!

Over at PCSX2.net we hit our 100,000th unique visitor in just 13 days after the new site design was launched, which seemed the perfect time to spring alittle video and some 'tantalising' news about current 'experimental' progress!

With 100,000 unique visitors having visited this site in it's short time online (13 days), both myself and Falcon4ever are happy it's gone so smoothly.

So a video of Makai Kingdom in action has been recorded for you lot to download and enjoy, including audio (speech, music, sound effects).

So you are thinking woopiee a video, wow, thats shocking... , well hold that thought, what if I told you that the video only had to be sped up by about 10 FPS to get to 60 FPS, eg; what you see is practically what it's emulated at!

What?!! near full speed emulation?!! impossible I hear you cry, well I did tell you that zerofrog was re-writing the eeREC and vuREC ;) There's alot to do, as in all honesty many games got broken with bugs during the transition from the old rec, to the new, but he's still not blinking, and he is avoiding sleep, so hopefully more news eventually!

Enough of that for now, enjoy the video, which you can grab on this page (click the 'DOWNLOAD' image to the right of the details ;) ).

PicoDrive DS 0.1.3 Released

One more update of this fabulous Genesis Emulator for the NDS by Ryan FB.

PicoDriveDS 0.1.3 is up! Changes:

* Added long filename support
* Added support for going up a directory by pressing B
* Added support for skipping ahead/back 5 files at a time with R/L
* Added automatic save/load SRAM support

Files are the same place as before or you can use the handy new release directories to be sure.

The SRAM feature is not the same thing as savestates. Basically it emulates a Genesis cart's internal Save RAM, and whenever the SRAM is written to it writes out (romname).srm. When you load a game, it looks to see if that SRAM file is there and loads it if so.

Snezziboy DS v 0.21a, released.

v0.21a is out. Fixed a few major bugs, so DKC is working now, didn't test anything else, but hopefully compatibility matches the GBA version at least.

As to when a non-flashcart version will be supported. Well, I'm not sure. I only have a flashcart, so someone else will have to add/test support for them.

Another update of this port done by Gladius.
