General Questions:

Q. What is Nemu64?

A. Nemu64 is a Nintendo64 emulator. It is one of the most compatible N64 emulators and has good Videos support, good audio support and very good input support.

Q. Where can I download Nemu64?

A. You can download Nemu64 at the download page or from the official Nemu page.

Q. Who  is making Nemu?

A. The Nemu crew is:

Lemmy: Main coder
LaC    : PIF emulation, Mempack\Eeprom support
Atreides : Video Emulation (Old Video Coder: hWnd)

Alphatesters:
Myzar, Coolbest, ZoRiC and EmuManiac

Q. What are the system requirements to run Nemu64?

A. Well, as stated in the Nemu64 readme file, the requirements are as follows:

-Minimum Requirements:

CPU: Pentium II class cpu or compatible. Suggest 300mhz at least.
Video card: nVidia TNT/TNT2 or card capable of supporting Direct-3D.
Sound: A card that is capable of playing any sample rate.
Memory: 64 Meg RAM

-Recommended Requirements:

CPU: Pentium II / III 450mhz for most games should run decent.
Video card: Card with nVidia chipset (TNT2 ULTRA)
Sound: Sound Blaster Live
Memory: 128 Meg RAM

-IN ORDER TO KICKASS Requirements:

CPU: Pentium III 700 or Amd Athlon 700 or greater
Video card: TNT2 ULTRA or GeForce DDR card
Sound: Sound Blaster Live
Memory: 192-256 Meg RAM

Q. What language was Nemu64 programmed in?

A. Object Oriented Pascal (Delphi). However, according to a relatively recent news post, Nemu's main exe, cpu core, and GUI are being recoded from Delphi to C. The next release will probably reflect the recode.

Q. How do I reset Nemu's settings?

A. Download this program and run it. Remember to read the ReadMe!.txt before use!

Q. Where can I get roms?

A. Since roms are illegal (unless you own the cartridge) we won't give links to any commercial roms.

Q. When will the next version of Nemu64 be released?

A. Although Lemmy would probably through his shoe at you for asking this, we'll just tell you straight up: Don't ask that question. Although it could be intended very innocently, the Nemu64 team works their rear-ends off to release new versions. You can't rush art, and likewise, you can't put a date on the next release of Nemu64.

Q. Why can't  I save in Zelda2 and Pokèmon Stadium?

A. Those games uses flashrom to store saves. Flashrom support isn't included in Nemu v0.7a, but the Nemu team has already made support for it and it will be included in the next version.

Q. What is the official Nemu64 web site?

A. http://www.nemu.com

Q. What is the official NemuZONE web site URL?

A: http://nemu.emulation64.com or http://www.nemuzone.com

Q. What are the official NemuZONE and Nemu64 IRC channels?

A. The official Nemu64 channel is #nemu64 at EFnet. The official NemuZONE channel is #nemuzone also at EFnet.

Q. Will there be newer versions of this FAQ? If so, where can I get them when they are released?

A. We, the NemuZONE team, do plan on releasing future versions of this FAQ.  If we acquire any more questions that we feel will suit this FAQ, we'll add them into a newer version. New versions can be found at NemuZONE.

Q. Is it possible for Nemu64 to run with my Voodoo Banshee?

A. There is a good chance that you can use your Banshee with Nemu64. By going to www.glsetup.com and downloading the GLSetup file, your Banshee files will be updated. I (snoopie) am the one who originally discovered that this could in fact allow Banshees to run Nemu, which is why I am confident enough about this fix to include this info about it in this FAQ. It works for me, and has been widely confirmed by other people as well.

Q. I get a "ERROR EnterRDPOnly: lpd3d already defined" error when I try to run a ROM. Is there a way to get rid of it?

A. Yes, there might be a solution. Try to set your desktop color to 16bit and download the latest drivers for your video card.

Q. How do I get Nemu to work with my Voodoo3 card?

A.  Download the newest drivers and set your desktop color to 16 bit. Then set your Nemu resolution to the same as your desktop resolution. For best quality run Nemu in full screen.

Q. Why won't Nemu work with my Voodoo/Voodoo2 card
and is it possible to get it working?

A. hWnd, the Nemu graphics programmer, has decided to not support secondary video card because these cards need extra code to work, and 3DFX haven't made drivers which can work with Direct3D without special support for it. Here's some words from hWnd about this:

"It is a fairly poorly kept secret that I, hWnd, have a grudge against 3DFX. I won't get into the details, but as a coder, I refuse to write any special code to accomodate a 3DFX product. Because of this decision, secondary boards such as the Voodoo1 and Voodoo2 do not and will not work with Nemu64. I regret that the Voodoo users among you are disappointed, but there will be no graphics code written to accomodate a 3DFX product. I won't go out of my way to make things not work, so if 3DFX decides to stop making developers jump thru hoops, their boards will start working too."

Q. When I'm playing Zelda the video suddenly freezes but the game goes on. Is there any way to fix this?

A. This is a known bug. I don't know any way to fix it besides restarting Nemu64.

Q. In Super Mario Kart, 2 player mode, the lower player is almost out of the screen. How do I fix this?

A. Turn off TV Aspect mode in Video Options and everything should be correct.

Controller:

Q. Are there support for more than one player in Nemu?

A. Yes. Nemu supports up to 4 players at the same time. I have tested 3 and that worked just fine.

Q. Why won't my sidewinder gamepad work with Nemu in Windows2000?

A. Download and install DirectX 8.0.

Audio:

Q. The sound in [Insert game here, like Starfox64] is strange. How do I fix this?

A. Turn on Prebuffering from the Audio Options menu.

Q. The sound is skipping and choppy. How do I fix this?

A. You can try turning on Prebuffering from the Audio Options menu. You probably will need a faster computer to get rid of the skipping or wait for future versions.
